One of us – Uno de nosotros

Main switch board outside
Cuadro eléctrico

[ENGLISH] Still no hot water here… electrician will be coming tomorrow to try to check it. The main switch board is definitely a scary place with ceramic fuses… we are not touching them! It also stopped raining today and I could recover the clothes from the line; the sheets were miraculously dry!

Today I was requested to write a small contribution about what being a women in science means on a daily basis, I sent them information on a few of the comments that I have had to deal with over the last few years. I am sharing one with you. When a male colleague wishes to compliment me, they say things such as: “Don’t worry about her, she is one of us, one of the boys!”. Well, not really! I am a woman and pretty happy to be one, why cannot they accept that I am fine and “one of them” but still a woman?! I don’t want to be a man! Needless to say that not once, one of my male colleagues has been praised by calling him a woman!

On the BP side of things… improvements are still coming, I can move more obviously the corner of my mouth and it now can be seen a bit better than yesterday (this has been confirmed by B who refuses to lie to me, thanks <3)… hopefully tomorrow will be better again. Given that I have finished with the Vitamin B injections, I have bought some Blackmores Mega B to keep on having Vitamin B supplements. Feeling positive :)

89 days, on my way to recovery – 89 días, recuperándome poco a poco

[ENGLISH] First world problem: no hot water! And we have it better than the neighbours who have lost all power, including the fridge. The building has a pretty old electricity installation and we have been warned that it is going to have to be replaced…. Maybe this is it! Not too unhappy about it as that replacement might mean that we will not have to get our coffee machine fixed every few months. It is raining again and we probably have the humidity to blame… I put a load of washing out last night and it is having its 10th rinse outside. It will certainly not have any trace of detergent left.

On the BP side of things, I am still feeling quite positive. Today, the corner of my mouth is definitely moving and I can feel muscles contracting/nerve action on my cheek… exciting!! I will continue everything I am doing at the moment and might call my friend to get her to Reiki me again.

Pedaling towards small improvements – Pedaleando hacia pequeñas mejoras

My mouth looks better today
Mi boca está más derecha
[ENGLISH] I can move (about half a mm) the left corner of my mouth!! I will try to make a video but I doubt that it will work; even showing it to B has been quite an effort. I don’t know if it is just the normal course of the illness, almost every viral infection ends up healing, or if the 8 injections of Vitamin B, the herbal remedies and massage plus the Reiki have made a difference. It is certainly some light in the end of the tunnel.

It might have also be related to the lovely weekend that we had together: the two dinners with B, the picnics at the park with friends and seeing G having so much fun on his bike. Today I worked from home and managed to cross a few things off my to-do list. I then went to pick G up around 4pm and we went to a bike track with traffic lights and road signs. He had a blast. It was some kind of collective craziness with all of those little kids just ignoring the most basic rules of road safety, overtaking on all sides, turning without looking… it was kind of miraculous that more accidents didn’t happen.

Saturday, little Saturday… - Sábado, Sabadete…

G on his bike without training wheels
G en su bicicleta sin ruedines

[ENGLISH] It has been a good weekend, sunny and lovely. Thank you to my beautiful friends who took G Friday and Saturday so B and I could have a couple of date nights before #2 arrives. G has had a blast as he REALLY loves having sleep overs! Also he has been playing with his bicycle and scooter nonstop. Yesterday in Centennial Park and today in Maroubra… he has discovered that he can start himself and has learnt to break. The funny thing is that he is as stubborn as me; he keeps on trying and trying until he gets it. Between yesterday and today he has probably spent over 4 hours on his bike… not bad for 4.5 years old!! He has legs like hydraulic cylinders and he was so tired that he was asleep a bit after 7pm. My friend who is a Reiki master also did some Reiki on my face... who knows, it might work! she said that the energy was flowing in the wrong way...

There is Spanish saying that goes “Saturday little Saturday, new shirt and ...”;  these days our saying is more like “Saturday, little Saturday, bicycle and scooter”… it really does not work in English but it does in Spanish.
