Welcome 2014 – Bienvenido 2014

Family photo in Manly
[ENGLISH] I have been full-time mothering, this is why I have been away. Lots of work before going on holidays and then lots of things to do with the kids.

I am happy to see 2013 go. 2013 has been hard, really hard. I have seen people very close to me battle with depression and not always win. But I guess that the important thing is that they have been trying to get out and are in the path of recovery. My face went all wonky in April and has not recovered yet (I am yet to post the update on my Bell’s Palsy). And I also had a cancer scare with my mother. Lots of other ugly things happened to my good friends: one was in hospital with Purpura and another in hospital with cancer, another lost his mother, another did not get her permanent position, and my cousin divorced in a rather ugly way… and so on…

Two sons
My normal year ended in April as I have been unable to function normally afterwards. My face was painful and debilitating and as a result I took 1 month of sick leave. Thankfully my pregnancy went well and R was born on the 29th of July. And what a delight that has been! R is the sweetest and loveliest and cuddliest little boy. He is kind and gentle and has compensated everything else. What would have been a horrible year to forget has become a year to remember. Seeing my two kids grow and interact and play with their father has been what has kept me going this year.

I hope that 2014 is better, I want health and happiness and rest… and peace of mind… but I am starting to think that this is what growing up is about. Maybe this is what grown-ups were warning me when I wanted to grow up faster.

Happy new year to every one! May 2014 be great for all of us <3 <3 <3

G on his bike
[ESPAÑOL] He estado ocupada.

Labour 3 – Parto 3

Moxa

[ENGLISH] I went to see the midwife yesterday and she said that the cervix is “more ready” but that I might need to get induced... and because there is no dilatation, they will have to do the “two-day” gig where they would admit me into hospital on Sunday and give me the gel to “ripen my cervix” and then the induction would start on Monday. I don’t want that, I could live with a one day induction but I really don’t want to repeat G’s birth where everything started 9am on a Thursday and baby was born 7:14pm on the Friday.

As a consequence, operation eviction has started. Aside from the home methods that everyone knows, I went and had some acupuncture yesterday. I got some needles in hands, arms, legs and feet followed by what it looked like a small cigarette butt which instead of burning tobacco was burning some Chinese Medicinal Herbs (Moxa). I had never seen it before, let’s see if it works.

The other, unintentional, thing that we are doing is that we have no car, it has broken down and it is in the mechanic until tomorrow… according to Murphy’s Law, I should go into full on labour tonight. Let’s see.

Labour 2 – Parto 2

Full moon at Maroubra beach
Luna llena en la playa de Maroubra

[ENGLISH] Same here, one piece and still waiting… weren’t second babies supposed to arrive early or around the due date? (I had convinced myself that this would be the case!). Still having bursts of painful contractions that seem to be conducive to nothing and now the circus of the UK Royals has started, I don’t even know when she was due to compare her waiting to mine! There is an awesome moon tonight; B is convinced that #2 will be born tomorrow. I do hope so!

Mum is coming – Llega mi madre

39 semanas
39 weeks
[ENGLISH] My mother is arriving tomorrow! I am really looking forward; it is not only that she will be here for #2’s birth which is really important. Also, she has been fighting with depression for the last couple of years and the fact that she is coming on her own just shows how much of an effort she is doing and how much better she is. I am over the moon.

#2 is preparing to come up, I have had contractions since Friday and strong, real ones, since Sunday. In fact, contractions were so strong on Sunday morning that I thought that #2 would be born then. He has now come to his senses and is waiting for Lala; either that or he wants to arrive at the same time what would make things interesting… Contractions come and go now without being as strong as Sunday morning.

BP… still improving! I will hopefully be able of showing half a wonky smile to #2 to welcome him into the world :)
